SLUMBER PARTY is currently on view as part of Divine Rest Nests: An Invitation at Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in Boulder, CO. Curated by Cristina Aguilar. On view May 22 - September 1, 2025 @ BMoCA
SLUMBER PARTY is a multimedia installation that invites viewers to step into the liminal space of adolescence. In this work all of time exists at once - the inner child is three years old, eight years old, sixteen years old, etc. The layers of time manifest as a teenage bedroom complete with all the necessities for a late night with friends or alone. A TV/VCR combo plays surreal commercials, a lava lamp shines colorful, drippy light, the walls and floor echo the inner child. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the space freely - lay on the bed, play a VHS, flip through a comic.
This immersive and liberatory exhibition offers the invitation to experience the powerful concept of rest as resistance and reclamation of imagination and dreams. Through ethereal artist activations and installations, the viewer will be transported to sacred and healing rest nests where they can surrender, release, and restore from the cacophony of noise beyond the museum walls. Intentional community programming will anchor dreams and visions of what is alchemized through rest portals and support this journey of restoration, love, and liberation.
