The water that moves the sand that moves the water. 2026.
This piece is about all about the water that sustains the San Luis Valley and connects us. The title is an invitation to honor those connections. The water that moves the sand that moves the water that moves the creatures that move the people that move the land that move our story forward daily. Water is life. Water is the source.
This was a deeply collaborative project, echoing our interconnected roots. In an effort to educate our communities on the importance of our valleys water, where it comes from and where it's going, right and salazer center water conservation board are creating community water murals across the valley. In Alamosa, AP Environmental Science students at Alamosa High School learned about our water's past, present, and future. Through lessons, conversations, and a field trip to Zapata Park, they decided what was important to include and shaped the final design. Huge thanks to those AHS students and their incredible teacher Consuelo Reyes!
Thank you to everyone who came to the community mural day on July 11th and everyone who has stopped by to say hello and offer support while we work. This has been one of the most rewarding creative experiences and it's because of you!!
This mural was generously supported by Rio Grande Headwaters Land Trust, Colorado Water Conservation Board, and Alamosa Chamber of Commerce.
